Speed & Ratio Control - PIV Chain Drive Transmissions

Fairchild PIV chain speed control transmissions are totally enclosed mechanical variable ratio drives. As opposed to belt or traction drives, all Fairchild variator models are PIV chain driven to be positive with zero slip. Some PIV chain transmissions or variators combine the variable speed unit with a mechanical differential to expand or compress the final speed range.  These PIV Transmissions are used in printing presses, textile machinery, paper converting, and packaging equipment, among other applications.

Position or Register Control – Cubic ® Planetary Gearboxes

Fairchild Position or Register control transmissions are enclosed planetary gear transmissions; differential transmissions designed to precisely control the angular phase relationship of mechanically connected rotating equipment. These planetary differentials are used for dynamic synchronizing and timing of different machine elements.  These Cubic® gearboxes are often used in conveyor drives, printing presses, paper and web machinery, plastic film machinery and packaging applications.

Speed & Position / Register Control – Differential Transmissions

Often an application does not fit exclusively into speed/ratio or position/register control. These special applications require simultaneously controlling the speed and position of the transmission output.  For these applications, we combine the PIV chain variator transmission concept with a mechanical differential draw mechanism to provide smooth durable operation in an infinitely adjustable transmission unit.  These units are designed for applications such as alternator drives, metering pumps, textile machinery, printing presses and in pulp and paper production.
